We have noticed that we have been repairing a lot of North Kites with the same damage to the fabric panel attaching the centre strut to the main canopy (see pictures – before and after). We wonder if this might be a warranty issue as it appears that this panel is not suitably reinforced. Either way we can undertake any kite repairs to get you back on the water. (Note we also spend time unpicking DIY kite repairs-it is harder than you think to make them fly true!)

At RB Sails we build our wave sails to tackle everything the Cornish coast can throw at them. When it came to choosing an ideal mast we needed to be confident it was up to the job. We also wanted a mast with a bend curve that would suit the widest possible range of sail manufacturers. Nolimitz are composite technology experts and introduced the first skinny mast on the market back in 1992.

A fantastic result for our local windsurfers and RB Sails! In classic Marazion conditions the RB Sails’ team of Harvey Dawkins, Sam Lawley and Martin France used custom wavesails from Ian Ross to beat all of the visitors and win the team event. Harvey competed against some of the best amateurs in the country to get an excellent individual forth place while Sam and Martin managed to win the Ladies and Masters categories respectively.

Not an everyday product, but a padded bag to fit exactly in the tail luggage ‘bin’ in an Agusta 109 Grand was an interesting project for RB Sails. Custom board bags are a common request for us here at RB Sails, but this post is to say that we recently did our first surf kayak travel bags (a Mega Reflex, followed swiftly by a Mega Boost kayak). These kayaks look really nicely finished, so if you want to protect your kayak from the inevitable knocks and bangs then give us a call. Note we can also add a custom logo of your choice to really finish off these great looking travel bags.

At RB Sails we are based just a few minutes away from the best wave sailing beaches in the country. As a result we handle a large number of sail repairs, encountering just about every windsurfing brand on the market. This gives us a real insight into what works and what doesn’t. This insight goes straight into our own range of custom wave sails, leading us to believe that our sails are as tough as anything else that you can buy out there.

The point of this post is to encourage you to go and tape along your battens before you hit the waves. All battens can shatter (some brands a lot more than others, tubular battens are the worst). You would be surprised at just how much effort goes into unpicking batten pockets just to retrieve a one inch stub of broken fibreglass. This effort means time and money on any repairs. Tape can allow the batten to be extracted even if it is in many pieces, so help yourself and tape those battens!

At RB Sails we use RBS battens and tensioners in our wavesails. These are expensive, but we think they are the best. We have found them resistant to snapping and best of all, they don’t flake off sharp shards of fibreglass at the first excuse.

Congratulations to Team Danske Bank. The guys did fantastically well to come home in third place. The Cornish adventurers faced skiing over 430 nautical miles (900km) while pulling a 150lb sled over a terrain of wind-blown waves of snow. The landscape is whipped by a wind that can drop the wind-chill to -50C. It is a testament to the team’s training, resilience and equipment that they achieved such a great result.
